Medical Receptionist
Work Setting
Physician Offices, Clinics, Urgent Care, Immediate
Care Clinics, Skilled Nursing Facilities and hospitals.
General Hours of Work
General hours for the medical receptionist are 8 AM to
5 PM, however, your hours would be dependent on the office you work
in.
Some urgent care and immediate care settings may stay open later
than other clinics and physician offices. In addition, some larger
clinics will have night clinics, which may require you to stay in
the evening.
Hospitals are open 24 hours a day and would require that a medical
receptionist be onsite 24 hours a day.
General Days of Work
The days per week are generally Monday through Friday, with
an occasional Saturday. However, once again, this will depend
heavily on the setting you work in. For instance, Hospitals are open
every day of the year and Urgent Care and
Immediate Care settings are usually open on Sunday.
Pay Range
Your pay range will depend on the setting and the
doctors you work for.
It is our experience that the pay range will be anywhere from $9.00
- 13.00 per hour.
Duties
A medical receptionist is generally responsible for greeting
patients, collecting payments and co-payments, checking patient in,
and verifying insurance coverage, pulling medical records for the
physician, checking patients out, scheduling appointments, answering
telephone calls, scheduling follow-up appointments, taking messages
for physicians and nurses, and confirming scheduled appointments.
Requirements
Though there are no specific requirements for the State of Oregon
for medical receptionist, some employers prefer that a medical
receptionist have some sort of formal training or experience. On the
other hand, some employers are willing to train employees for
medical receptionists.
